A Clear Lake sunrise.
We had a lovely drive today. The weather is perfect. The scenery is, guess…. yup, corn and soybeans. As we left Clear Lake, Ia. we saw a field very close to the field where Buddy Holly’s plane crashed. There was a plaque in our hotel honoring the pilot. The day, the place, "the music died."
While were at Lake Liquors this morning (not for breakfast) I saw a semi truck advertising a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Mason City, IA. Why was a semi truck delivering liquor advertising a FLW home? I haven’t figured that out but I knew there was a reason we liked him. In any case, I asked the lady at the store how to get there and off we went. I am a big fan of FLW and since it was on the way to where were going we had to stop. We found the Stockman Home. Unfortunately it was closed, but we peeked in the window and enjoyed taking pictures outside. I was so pleased to see one of his homes.
Off we went on the Highway of the Saints to Cedar Rapids. Along the way we stopped in Brandon, IA which is where Iowa’s largest frying pan is. Here’s a picture to prove it. Great, huh? We haven’t seen the BBOY, but there’s a big frying pan!
One of the great things about having wonderful kids is that their friends become our friends. Tonight we are at the home of Jeff and Andrea Kaminski. They have a lovely home and we are pleased to visit with them. We’ll write more about our visit in a day or two.
Hope all is well, take care, bc and gc
