Cody, Wyoming, September 11, 2009
Honoring our lost countrymen and women and their families on this date.
Today we went white water rafting on the Yellowstone River! While it was only class 2 to 2+, it wasn’t serious white water but somewhat bubbly, yet fun and wet all the same! Our guide was Point, a very knowledgeable guide. Yes, his name is really Point and he earned that name by having an opinion about everything (as locals tell us). He was fantastic! Not only did he show us a great time on the water, but he imparted lots of information about the vegetation, wildlife, history, geography and the best place for a sandwich in Gardiner, MT.
We did get wet! There were 4 of us on the raft and Point.
A young couple from Boston rode left side of the raft and Bob and I splashed from the right. They have been camping in a tent in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons for about 5 days. They were a very nice couple. We rafted 8 miles down the Yellowstone River, floating in and out of the Park. The pictures show us through a not so calm area. I never was good at back paddling. Oh well, there goes my career as a river guide. We made arrangements with our hotel for a late check out and that was very smart. A warm shower after the morning ride was very nice after our raft soaking.
The drive back through the northern part of Yellowstone National Park was amazing. I know we keep saying this, but it is true. It is amazing. The drive on the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway 296 was incredible. I’ve never imagined mountains, trees, hills and dirt that beautiful.
Our room at the Best Western in Cody, WY is quite nice. We are glad we made a reservation, as there were no available rooms without a reservation. It must be because the of the Yellowstone Quilt show going on. I’ll report on that tomorrow evening!
Love to all, bc and gc.
