Kerrville, Texas, October 7, 2009
Austin, Texas, October 5 and 6, 2009

After relaxing all morning we set out for our drive to Austin. We drove out of Dallas which is always an interesting experience! The weather was cool, but no rain.

We got off the big freeway and traveled along the smaller roads. We passed through Holland which was a very small town but had the most beautiful cemetery. Each family had its own plot outlined with stones. Once again, the headstones were very old, from the mid 1800’s. it was very peaceful.

Who you gonna’ call, Ghost Busters©!!

We ate lunch in Huto in Bart. Huto seems to have an obsession with hippos. We saw 5 hippo statues around the city. Here are some of them.

We stayed with our friends Randy and Diane Miller. I went to junior and high school with them and Diane’s parents were friends of my parents. Diane and I agreed we haven’t changed a bit! Ha!

Randy and Diane have remodeled a beautiful home and it is so very nice! We enjoyed staying with them in their guest suite. We got a few ideas for our future home from them….

On Tuesday, we drove through Dripping Springs, Johnson City, Fredericksburg and Blanco. I did some nice damage at a great store in Fredericksburg! Yeah! We are looking at property to determine if we want to settle here. Leaving California is heart rendering, but Texas has some definite pluses! The scenery is spectacular! So beautiful.

While driving through Johnson City (which is the home of LBJ) we went on some incredible roads to see available properties. We agreed that we want a home on an improved road! Bart took us on quite an adventure without a complaint. Whatta guy! At one point the rocky road reminded us of the roads in Nakuru.

We had BBQ Tuesday night and this morning Diane took me to downtown Austin for a walk along the city park/walk system. Austin has its act together. This was a beautiful, fun walk, especially since Diane and I had a good time together. We left Austin, drove through New Breunfels, Spring Branch and Boerne. (Boerne is pronounced “Bernie”). We had lunch with my friend Meg Grier and then she drove us around Boerne to see the town. It’s a lovely town, just 45 minutes from San Antonio. I think we’ll be back!

Kerrville is on the way west towards New Mexico. I understand there is a quilt store here! As soon as the internet gets fixed, I’ll check it out.

The butterflies are challenged to get out of the way of the car. We did find this “bug” on a post at the Exxon. It was about 3 inches long……we don’t know what it is and didn’t bother to ask it………..

Bugs and mud are prevalent and accessible at every turn…..

There were a few friendly animals…..

And Herbert had a culturally diverse business…..

For all you youthful swinger….pick your pony…..

We’re back in the west now, with huge states and long drives. We are thankful that you are following us. Thank you! Love to all, bc and gc.
