Yuma, Arizona, October 11, 2009

We don’t have a lot to report today. But it has been a nice day.

We got up early. Those of you that know me, getting up early is not my usual routine. I think it has to do with the time change. Weird how a one hour time change can make such a difference. On the road again.

Our evening yesterday was an experience in frustration. If you could have seen us carrying our computer around the hotel looking for an internet connection… We were able to post the smilebox and the blog only after much frustration.

We finally did have dinner at the Hopi Inn. Here’s a picture of the inviting entrance. The food was, well, not so good. The waitress was very nice.

This was a big day for Bart!! We got up early drove 90 minutes to Tucson and got Bart an oil change. Then we went across the street and spent some of our laundry quarters on a vacuum. bc vacuumed the air filter, (those nasty grasshoppers!), then we got him a "Super" wash! Yeah, all oiled, cleaned and ready to go. Bart flew through the desert…. Oh, bc tried to vacuum the back seat floors, but there’s too much stuff to even see the back seat.

Our hats our off to the Firestone guys in Tucson on Ina Rd. They got us in and out in 45 minutes They were very excited to see Bart. The guys pulled bc aside to discuss how wonderful Bart is. We stood aside and beamed! They liked his turbo air thingamajig. Whatever that is, We love Bart!

There isn’t much to report about the scenery. We originally planned to stay in Gila Bend, AZ. But we got there at lunch time, and decided to have lunch at the Space Age restaurant. We ordered grilled cheese sandwiches (discretion being the better part of valor) with a side of onion rings. What a strange place it was.

Our waitress was Mardes. Mardes had some sort of hip or back problem as she walked funny. When Mardes seated us, she said “What do you want to drink, and there is no breakfast!?!” Ok then… Mardes eventually served us our sandwiches and then 5 minutes later came to our table with several plates of food. You should have seen her face as she stood at our table, with all this food on her arms, us eating our grilled cheese sandwiches and the swivel neck routine. Mardes finally realized the food belonged to another table. I asked bc to leave Mardes a little extra tip so she would go to a chiropractor. But the presentation was an improvement over our prior experience with chicken fried steak at K-Bob's.

We drove I8 and passed through Theba, Sentinel, Aztec, Dateland, Tacna, Walton, Ligurta and The Foothills. At 75 mph….

We made it to Yuma, AZ by 2:30pm. After several, hiccups…. We were in our room. We decided to go swimming. We swam for an hour and met 2 young armed forces people who are here in Yuma training with their dogs to go to Iraq and Afghanistan. We thanked them for their service to our country and wished them well.

Tomorrow we will be back in California! We are over 7,500 miles and tomorrow starts our 6th week on the road. What an adventure.

Love to you all…. bc and gc
